Demographics:
Our nonprofit is located in Hayward, WI, home of the National Fresh Water Fishing Hall of Fame, the largest musky in the world! Hayward is a very popular destination for fishing, which is an extremely widespread hobby of those living in the area. The people who live here tend to be older, retired, poorer than average, and have a history in farming. Because the area is rural, the people have less access to gyms and health care facilities, which results in unhealthier lifestyles than those in more urban settings. Also adding to an unhealthy lifestyle is the poverty rate, which in this country is 18.8% while the state is 12%. Also, 21.3% of the population are 65 years old or older, as compared to the whole state of Wisconsin where only 13.9% of the population is older than 65. Therefore, there are more people in my targeted group here than elsewhere. Specific segments that would both show interest in the program and are heavily populated in the area are "Backcountry folks", "Blue Highways", and "Shotguns and Pickups". Because it is a popular vacation destination, we can rely on students visiting for the summer to be the volunteer guides if they are interested. |
